HAMSA Activist Fellowship

Every day across the Middle East, civil rights are under assault.

A young blogger in Egypt has just been detained by police. Paramilitary forces assault a student rally in Iran. A woman in Saudi Arabia is prevented from leaving the country without the permission and escort of a male relative. Journalists in Morocco face a long jail-term and a large fine for publishing an article critical of the King.

The question is: What are you going to do?

If the answer is “stand by silently,” then read no further. But if the answer is “use my freedom and my voice to protect civil rights,” then consider becoming a HAMSA Fellow.

We are recruiting a group of young activists from the US, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. These HAMSA Fellows will implement campaigns to protect Middle East reformers under fire and lead pro-active campaigns to secure individual rights.

As a HAMSA Fellow, you will:

Work with a diverse network of activists to organize civil rights campaigns;
Attend workshops with other fellows to make connections, develop leadership skills, and implement emergency campaigns;
Participate in emergency grassroots campaigns to support arrested activists.

We seek a diverse group of individuals with a diverse set of skills. If you are interested in any of the following activities, you can contribute:

Organizing rallies
Reaching out to political leaders and celebrities
Contacting the media
Writing editorials
Editing videos
Designing websites and banners
Organizing on university campuses
